High performance is creating success, moving the needle forward and consistent innovation.
When you set up your business, you’re going to be working with different suppliers whether that be social media managers, designers, assistants etc. You need to know how to get high performance, not just for yourself but for your team too.
There’s a secret recipe for success.
You need to make sure you’re creating the foundations so that your success is consistent.
Let’s get into how to create high performance…
Creating a high performing team isn’t about output and results. It’s about creating a happy team. When you create a happy team that trusts each other, that’s moving forward in the right direction, that feels inspired, passionate, driven and can see their part in what they’re doing – THAT is when you create high performance.
It’s about creating an environment where everyone in the team feels safe, everyone knows their place, everyone feels seen, everyone’s experiences are taken into account and everyone is focusing on what they LOVE to do, rather than building on their weaknesses.
When I worked in corporate for 10 years, my peers who had similar sized teams would be so focused on the metrics and the numbers. They couldn’t understand why my team was so innovative, excited, passionate and how they were out-performing their team. My team was HAPPY. It’s all about creating happiness. When you focus on happiness, joy and excitement, drive and passion, the rest will follow.
There’s scientific research to show when you are happy, well rested and looking after yourself you are 60% more likely to take on a challenging problem. When you are stressed, you’re not sleeping well and you’re not feeling good in yourself, you actively avoid complicated problems.
This is the secret sauce that I don’t think enough people tap into. So many people focus on the output and the end result, and forget about happiness.
Think about this in your business – how you manage your team or how you manage yourself (if you don’t have a big team yet)? Are you constantly looking at how much money you’ve made, how many likes you’ve received and your engagement? If you are, then you’re focusing on the wrong things. You’re automatically only going to feel success when you are validated by something outside yourself. Business is not personal. It’s a science, and like with any science, you have to fail in order to learn.
High performance isn’t about getting there once. It’s about feeling it every single day. It’s a lifestyle choice. How are you prioritizing your energy in order to create this? How are you going to step into this CEO mindset?
CEO’s think ahead, they focus on their energy, they focus on high performance and how they can create it for themselves and their organisation. Audit yourself. If you’re not in this zone of high performance, what’s blocking you? I guarantee it’s always the simplest things. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you working out? Are you prioritising relationships and fun? Or are you just sitting behind your laptop late at night, starting to lose yourself?
It’s really important to learn how to get the best out of your suppliers. Focus on being the best client that your supplier has worked with. When that supplier loves working with you, you are going to get a significantly better service. Think about it. If they love working with you, whose Voxer are they going to reply to first? Whose work do you think they’ll prioritise? Who do you think they’ll be thinking about at the weekend, when they see something that sparks an idea for you?
Focus on how you can be the best that you can be – for yourself, your business, your clients and also your suppliers. When you marry all of this and you’re feeling happy, the output that you were originally so concerned about will take care of itself. You’ll be leaning in to such a level of high performance that everything starts to flow naturally.
