I’ve been starting a new routine which I heard about on The Boss Babe podcast.

The millionaire morning walk.  

It’s what it says on the tin. I’ll go for a walk first thing in the morning and I’ll plug into a podcast of someone who I really respect and admire.

It helps you get into a state of inspiration. It allows you to see how they think, what questions they’re asking and what their mind/ business looks like. 

This will shift the game for you, and it has for me!

On this particular episode of The Boss Base podcast, I heard a story about reframing your mindset which I was so moved by that I wanted to share it with you, too.

Here’s the story…

There was a man who lived in a community with a beautiful white horse. Everyone in the community would look at his horse in admiration and want to buy it. He always got offers, but he’d always decline them and say “I’m not interested, the horse isn’t for sale”.

One day the Emperor came to stay. He saw the horse and of course, wanted to buy it too. The Emperor sent his people to make an offer. The farmer again said, “I’m not interested, the horse isn’t for sale”. Everyone in the community was shocked, knowing full well the Emperor would steal his horse anyway.

They woke up the next day and, as expected, the horse was gone. The whole community said to the farmer “you’re stupid! You could of had the money, he was going to take the horse anyway”. The farmer replied “good, bad, who knows”.

The next day, his horse came back with 5 other majestic horses. Everyone said “you’re so lucky, you didn’t sell your horse and now you have 6”. The farmer replied “good, bad, who knows”.

The next day, the farmer was breaking in the horses. He was on this one horse and the horse saw something, freaked and on his hind legs threw the farmer off. The farmer broke his legs. The community said “you’re so unlucky, what are you going to do!?” The farmer replied “good, bad, who knows”.

A few weeks later the farmer was still in hospital with his broken leg. Meanwhile, the community was pulled to war and all of the able-bodied men were called to fight. The community visited him in hospital and said “you’re so lucky you don’t have to go to war, this broken leg has saved your life”. The farmer replied “good, bad, who knows”.

This story raised the hairs on the back of my neck. I think as entrepreneurs we’re always trying to predict 20 steps ahead and what will happen. Thinking about this story, there are so many circumstances in my business journey where i could of said “I’m so lucky” or “I’m so unlucky”. But really, it’s “good, bad, who knows”.

We never ever know how something is going to turn out. We spend so much time trying to over-engineer what is going to happen, that we forget that it’s is a journey. So many business owners are so impatient – they want to get to this magic goal of, £10K, £50K, £100K months. Everybody wants to be there yesterday and they forget that creating a business and being a successful entrepreneur is a JOURNEY.

It’s a journey of good fortune, fucking things up and you have to be at peace with the fact that you don’t really know whether it’s going to be good or bad.
