The consistency of action is something I see so many business owners fall down on and it’s so important if you want to create a successful, sustainable business.
Consistency gets a bad rep because everyone is looking for that quick fix magic pill to fast track success and results. Let’s face it, consistency isn’t sexy. It’s not what people want to hear because it takes effort and discipline, but when you master consistency, your entire existence will change and it will seep into every aspect of your life – your health, your friendships, your commitments.
Consistency of action can show up anywhere in your life, not just your business, for example your health, your workout schedule, your commitment to doing the things that you say you’re going to do. Consistency is moving the needle forward and standing by your word when you say you’re going to do something. Some days you’ll feel really motivated and consistency will feel easy. Other days it will be a struggle but remember that mastering consistency is a compounding effect.
Here are 5 steps to master consistency:
1. VISION
Who do you want to be?
What type of woman do you want to be?
How do you want to show up in the world?
What does your future self do in the morning?
What habits does she have?
How does she look after herself?
The clearer you can get on this, the better.
Create a vision board of who you want to be, the results that you want to create and the habits that you want to start introducing into your life. Set this as your desktop and phone background or put this somewhere you’ll see every day. When this self-sabotage starts to seep in (“I’m too tired to go to the gym” or “I don’t feel like going on an IG live” – check your vision board. What would this version of yourself do? Visual cues work SO well – stick up post it notes or record an audio from your future self – get creative and know what works for you!
2. SET THE BAR LOW
This sounds counter-intuitive but when you set the bar low, you’re more likely to build trust with yourself and create results. For example, if you want to get consistent on Instagram and you’re currently not posting, set the bar low. Post 3 x a week (instead of setting the expectation of 7 x a week). Set a date in your diary to achieve this by and then BUILD on this.
3. HABIT STACKING
Habit stacking is a form of an implementation intention. Rather than pairing your new habit with a particular time and location, you pair it with a current habit. The more that you can habit stack on the things you’re already doing, the more likely you’ll be in succeeding in your goals. Why make things unobtainable when you could be making things EASY for yourself. The easier they are, the more you’ll succeed.
4. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO VALUE CONSISTENCY
You tend to adopt the beliefs of the people you hang out with. So, plug into spaces where people are succeeding and winning. Look at their base line compared to yours. If their base line is above where you’re currently at, you’ll MOVE. Their base line becomes your base line. So (without judgement because everyone is on their own journey) the people in your circle – are they achieving the things you want to achieve?
5. DO THE WORK TO REWIRE YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS
YOU are the person that creates success and results. If deep down, you know that you are self-sabotaging and your actions aren’t meeting your ambitions, then you have a limiting belief and a block in your subconscious that you NEED to shift. Your subconscious always wins. It drives 95% of your thoughts, actions and behaviours. If your subconscious isn’t working for you, you’ll never succeed. Rewiring your subconscious can sometimes be as simple as 1 breathwork session.
